Andreea Măcelaru Șofron
Transcript HMF: We are talking with Andreea Măcelaru Șofron, actess at the Nottara Theater in Bucharest, Romania. Andreea, let’s take a journey back in time… many decades ago. Andrei, your kindergarten and elementary school best friend, emigrated with his mother to the US. Please share with us your memories of Andrei as a kid. Andreea: Oh, my God; we were such close friends. We were each other’s shadow. We were playing and hanging out; he was a very happy child, quite selfless, and a courageous boy who rescued me several times from unpleasant situations. Although I barely remember details of my childhood, my memories about Andrei are still fresh, as if it happened yesterday. In fact, Andrei is in all my childhood memories. I was truly sad when he emigrated to the US; we did reconnect, later, in cyberspace. HMF: Before December 1989, you could not get in touch with each other without facing risks. You said the two of you reconnected later on the Internet. What can you tell us about the moment when the old childhood friends, now adults, met again? Andreea: It was a very emotional moment; we have been looking for each other for some time—eventually, we made it…..We talked a lot, we would write messages almost every day in the morning and in the evening. We realized that, in fact, we hadn’t been apart; emotionally and mentally, we have always been together. I was delighted to learn about his shows on the VOA. I didn’t listen to VOA back then; my foreign connections were with Europe, especially Germany. I listened to the Radio Free Europe. I’m so sorry I missed his shows. I learned he worked for an IT company; I was also pondering on a career change, moving away from acting to interior design. He promised he would help me build a website and a Facebook page for my new business venture. HMF: Thank you, Andreea, for taking the time to share your memories with HelloMyFriends. We’ll keep in touch via email; the address is hellomyfriends.show@outlook.com.
